What we do

Happitime is a non-profit-making organisation and a registered charity. We have been offering children in and around Hackney an safe and fun place to play and learn since 1967.

Children are dropped off by their parents and carers. There is a maximum of 16 children, cared for by three professional early years practioners and one or two parent helpers.

Children have plenty of free play - they can choose of a range of themed activities from home corner play, small world play and dressing up, along with arts and crafts, and group activities such as music, singing and story time. A healthy snack is provided each morning.

On Wednesday afternoons (1:00 - 3:00), and Friday mornings (10:00 - 12:00) the playgroup also runs drop-in stay and play sessions for parents and carers and their children. This gives new parents a chance to try us out.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework 2017
Ofsted inspected the playgroup the 21st May 2019

“The staff engage children in meaningful conversations, play alongside them and use new words to build their vocabulary... They visit the library and choose books about their projects, listen attentively as staff read stories and join in with the favourite songs during singing time... As part of the project about growth, they enthusiastically joined in with planting carrot seeds.”

OFSTED Inspection Report, May 2019

“ The manager and staff have developed strong partnerships with parents. They consistently communicate with parents, which contributes to continuity in meeting children’s needs.”
